BIOGRAPHY
Lefty Hathaway is a pianist, singer, songwriter, arranger, and dynamic performer whose music reflects a lifetime immersed in the rich traditions of American roots music. Born in London, England, in the late 1970s, Lefty moved to the United States at the age of twelve and began performing in clubs throughout Tulsa, Oklahoma by the time he was seventeen. Over the past three decades, he has built a career touring nationwide while developing a musical voice rooted in authenticity, groove, and heartfelt storytelling.
In 2012, Lefty released Shacks on Plough Lane Records, a critically acclaimed album recorded at Nashville’s legendary Quad Studios. The record showcased his signature blend of soulful songwriting, roots-driven rhythms, and expressive keyboard work. His musical path was profoundly influenced by the late Rocky Frisco, legendary pianist for J.J. Cale, whose mentorship helped shape Lefty’s understated, groove-first approach to performance and songwriting.
Throughout his career, Lefty has shared the stage with his longtime hero and fellow Oklahoman Leon Russell and has collaborated with or opened for members of the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, New Grass Revival, Greyboy Allstars, J.J. Cale, Chuck Leavell, and Sea Level bandmate Randall Bramblett. Before relocating to Florida in 2018, he became an integral part of the Athens, Georgia music community while continuing to perform throughout the country. His work has also brought him into the studio with legendary producer John Keane, whose recordings have helped define the sound of Southern rock, Americana, and improvisational music for generations.
Today, Lefty’s soulful Hammond organ and piano playing, gritty rhythm-driven vocals, and deep musical intuition serve as a cornerstone of Brothers After All. He honors the legacy of the Allman Brothers Band while bringing his own unmistakable voice, passion, and musicianship to every performance. Whether performing original music or celebrating the timeless songs that inspired generations of musicians, Lefty delivers every note with authenticity, heart, and an unwavering commitment to the music.
WHY I PLAY
Music has always been the place where my heart and mind become one. It is the church of sound, a place where individual lives become one collective experience. There is no greater instrument of peace than people gathering together to share music.
I’ve felt most at home on stage since I was a kid. When I perform the music of the Allman Brothers Band, it no longer belongs to the musicians alone. It belongs to everyone in the room, the band, the audience, and the community we’ve created together. Whether you’re hearing these songs for the first time or have loved them for decades, we’re all connected by the wisdom, soul, and unmistakable groove that lives within the music.

WHY I PLAY THIS GEAR?
I can’t imagine playing the music of the Allman Brothers Band on anything other than a Hammond organ and the unmistakable roar of a Leslie cabinet. The sound surrounds you from every direction, and when you’re inside that moment, it feels like sitting in the cockpit of a cosmic blanket of sound.
I choose Roland keyboards because they’ve captured the character and tone of many classic vintage instruments while providing the reliability today’s touring musicians depend on. Just as importantly, their keyboards have the weight and responsiveness that allow me to play rhythmically and dynamically without compromise. They let me focus entirely on making music.
